There are many places to shop in Beijing and you can usually haggle to get cheaper deals. Wang Fu Jing is the biggest shopping area in Beijing with big shopping malls as well as smaller designer boutiques. However, buying genuine western articles can be expensive so for a cheaper and more interesting shopping experience hit one of the markets. The markets are spread across the city but well worth the effort. Expect to pay about RMB 100 for trainers and leather bags. Silk Market-JianGuoMen Dajie. Whether you want funky trainers, all brands, all sizes, or the latest must have Birken, this market will not disappoint. Don’t be afraid to haggle with vendors for everything, silk scarves, North Face Jackets and Channel purses. It may not be the genuine article but the quality is good. Xidan Market-Really good for accessories and clothes. Antiques Market- Good for paintings, photography, antiques and Communist kitsch. Sanlitun Market-same as above only offers more clothes. Has a particularly good range of shoes and jewelry. On the 3rd floor you will find a range of goodies that make excellent presents, ie, table mats, paintings, hand carved furniture.
