How many hours will I be expected to work?
Teachers average around 20 to 25 hours a week. Certain times of the year are busier than others, but we do not ask teachers to work more than 30 hours in any given week.
What are my days off?
Most teachers will be required to work weekends. As compensation teachers are given two consecutive weekdays off a week. Periodically, teachers will be asked cover for absent colleagues.
How do I apply for a Z-Visa?
We will guide you through the process and provide you with the necessary documentation. It is fairly straightforward though it does require some planning ahead.
How long does it take to apply for a visa?
Generally speaking, from beginning to end, the application process takes about a month.
Is it easy to find accommodation in China?
Yes, our welfare officer will take you to see a few apartments once you have arrived she will help you with landlord negotiations and in sorting out utilities and resident registration.
How much money should I bring?
Although we are happy to provide new teachers with loans to help with the initial start up costs, it is recommended that teachers bring between 1500-2000GBP to China.
What is the tax rate in China?
Tax rates vary according to where in China you will be living. In Beijing, teachers can expect to pay around 10%
Are flights to China paid for by Shane English Schools?
All flights are paid for by the teacher however the end of contract bonus can be used towards the cost of the return airfare.
How much are flights to China?
Airfare costs depend on time of year, distance and how close to the departure date that you book. Generally, flights can cost anywhere between $700 and $1,200.
Will my teaching salary be enough money to support myself?
The salary that Shane offers allows teachers to enjoy a good standard of living as well as potential savings. Teachers will certainly find that their salaries go further here than in their home countries.
